During the doyo period in summer, it is customary to eat ankoro mochi, sweet rice cakes coated with azuki bean paste, as a way to pray for health and protection from misfortune.
Softly pounded "Hikotaro mochi" glutinous rice is wrapped in smooth azuki bean paste.
